A robotic case packer solution is a packaging machinery that utilizes robot technology for packing products in boxes or crates. Although the system can be used for the primary packaging, it is more often integrated at the end of the line. The main advantage of a robotic case packer is its ability to provide efficient and speedy packing in a predefined pattern. In contrast to the traditional case packing system, the robotic case packer is far more flexible and precise regarding performance.
Haley Manufacturing Inc. specializes in processing and packaging equipment manufacturing and automation within the fruit and vegetable industry. Their core expertise lies in automated packaging operations such as bagging, weighing, trays, boxes, and fruit handling solutions.
Their recent take on robotic technology in the fresh produce industry is a robotic case packer solution for packing tubs of apples into either cardboard or plastic crates. The design of the solution provides extended flexibility in terms of easy adoption for other packaging applications.
The operational capacity of the 6-axis robot solution is up to 42 clamshells per minute with an approx. 4,2-sec cycle. The weight of one filled clamshell/tube is approximately 1,4 kg, which gives 4,2 kg as a total weight per pick and place. The packaging pattern in the given case is six clamshells per crate and can easily be adapted to different packaging formats.
For instance, loading bagged apples into boxes or crates is a task this robotic solution will excel in.
The gripping tool is designed and manufactured by Gripwiq, consisting of a distribution house, mount plate, the QuickZhift-75 system, and 3 ST-series suction cup grippers. The ST-500 suction cups with an outer diameter of 100 mm are mounted on the 35 cm long distribution system.
With the QZ-75 system, the gripper can be promptly taken off for cleaning or replacement.
Additionally, the replacement of a single cup can take seconds. The ST mount allows the cups to be pulled off and put back on without using tooling.
